Tankless Water Heater Installation Services

Cowtown Water Heaters installs tankless water heaters in Dallas / Fort Worth homes. We’ve been doing this work for years, and we’ve seen how the switch changes things for people; no more running out of hot water mid-shower, no 50-gallon tank taking up space in the garage or utility closet.

Tankless units heat water on demand instead of storing it, which means you get hot water when you need it and nothing sitting around cooling off between uses.

Most homes in TX can handle a tankless installation, but it depends on your setup. We had a call last month from someone in a 70s ranch home with the old tank wedged into a hallway closet. Pulled that out, mounted a Rinnai on the exterior wall, and they got their closet back plus endless hot water. That’s the kind of change people notice right away.

When Tankless Makes Sense for Your DFW Home

You’ll see the biggest benefit if you’re dealing with any of these:

  • Running out of hot water with back-to-back showers
  • Tank leaked and damaged flooring or drywall
  • High gas or electric bills from keeping 40+ gallons hot all day
  • Limited space where the current tank sits
  • Homes with multiple bathrooms competing for hot water
  • Planning a bathroom addition and need more capacity

Tankless isn’t always the answer. If you’ve got an older home with half-inch gas lines or 100-amp electrical service, we’ll tell you upfront what upgrades you’d need.

A lot of properties built in the 60s through 80s around here have undersized gas lines that worked fine for a tank heater but can’t deliver the BTUs a tankless demands. Sometimes those upgrades make sense for an electric water heater, sometimes they don’t. We walk through it before any work starts.

How We Install Tankless Water Heaters

First visit, we check your existing setup: gas line size, electrical panel capacity, where the unit would mount, venting path. Tankless heaters need proper combustion air and exhaust routing, especially on interior installs. We measure incoming water flow rate too, because Dallas / Fort Worth water pressure varies and the unit needs adequate flow to fire correctly.

Once we’ve got those numbers, we recommend a specific model. Condensing units work well in this climate because they’re more efficient and the PVC venting costs less than stainless. We typically suggest sizing for simultaneous use; shower running while the dishwasher fills, that kind of thing. A family of four usually needs different capacity than someone living alone.

Installation day, we shut off water and gas, disconnect the old tank, and haul it out. We mount the new unit, run new gas line if needed (often we’re upsizing from half-inch to three-quarter), connect hot and cold supply lines, and install the venting.

Condensing models produce acidic condensate, so we route a drain line to an appropriate termination point. Then we test fire the unit, check for leaks, adjust temperature settings, and show you how the controls work. Whole process usually takes four to six hours depending on what we run into.

The biggest holdup is usually gas line work. Homes built on slab foundations sometimes have the main gas line running through concrete, which complicates upsizing. Pier-and-beam or homes with accessible crawl spaces tend to go quicker. We handle that during the same visit; just adds time.
